Calvin Klein F/W 17.18 New York (O)

Calvin Klein Forced to Remove Underwear Ad Because Model "Looked 12" But model Lulu is over 18 years old. By Lily Chen Calvin Klein is no stranger to provocative underwear ads. Case-in-point: the 2016 spring campaign practically sold sex. However, the brand came under heavy criticisms over a new ad in the UK. The ad in question saw a model known by Lulu dressed in a black bra on a boutique window. It was called “inappropriate” and “irresponsible” by customers who requested its removal. A complaint came by one Rachel Ashby who told The Daily Mail she objected to the model’s appearance: “While I realize it is likely she is probably of legal age to appear, the fact that she looks underage in terms of body shape and somewhat vulnerable facial expression, combined with the fact that she is wearing very little and is adopting a strangely provocative pose means it could be deemed to sexualize children.” The imagery was immediately pulled. Lulu is an industry darling having already walked – and closed – Calvin Klein’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection and covered the brand’s Spring 2017 campaign alongside a Vogue Italia cover. It should be worthy to note that all underwear models must be over 18 years old and a point Ashby acknowledged. But should ”looking young” be discriminated against? It could also be how Emily Ratajkowski puts it: “an intolerable cultural reaction when women take ownership of their sexuality and their bodies.” What are your thoughts?
