Cameron Russell est née le 14 juin 1987, à Cambridge, dans le Massachusetts. Elle grandit dans une famille d'entrepreneur qui inculque à leur enfant la persevérance et le goût de l'effort. En 2000, Sa mère créé une société de location de voiture nommée Zipcar, fondée sur l'autopartage. Une société qui est actuellement présente dans plus de vingt états américains ainsiqu qu'au Royaume-unis. Son père est ingénieur et président de GoLoco, une sociéte de Co-Voiturage et entreprise de "Social Networking". Cameron connait l'engagement qu'il faut pour créer et faire perdurer une entreprise. Toutefois, Cameronn s'interesse de très pres à la politique et dès son plus âge. Quelques amis proches, qui travaillent sur la campagne présidentielle de Bill Clinton, arrange une entrevue avec le président le 5 juin 1998. Après avoir délivré un discours au Massachusetts Institute de Technology, sa famille rencontre Bill Clinton. Il lui conseille de rester le plus longtemps possible à étudier, de connaitre le maximum de monde autour d'elle, et de comprendre ses rêves et ses aspirations. Agée de 10 ans, ce moment précis marquera sa vie à tout jamais. En 2005, Cameron est diplômée du Commonwealth School. Toutefois, sa vie prend un autre tournant en 2003. Sa mère a un ami qui travaille chez Ford Models. Il la rencontre et décide de lui faire signer un contrat en 2004. En jiin 2004, Cameron débute son périple sur les podiums de Prada et Fendi à Milan.
[7] Modeling career[edit]Russell's mother had a friend who worked at Ford Models agency, and Russell decided to sign with that agency in 2003. She later moved on to DNA Model Management in 2006, switched to Women Management in 2008, and then moved to Elite Model Management in 2011.[8][9] Since beginning her modeling career part-time at the age of 16, Russell has worked with numerous successful photographers including Steven Meisel, Craig McDean, and Nick Knight among others, in such magazines as American, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Japanese Vogue, W, Self Service and Numéro.[8] She has featured in advertising campaigns for companies including Ann Taylor, Benetton, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Armani, Oscar de la Renta, and Yves Saint Laurent.[8] Russell has featured in runway fashion shows for designers including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Lauren, Victoria's Secret, and Diane von Fürstenberg.[10] In October 2012, Russell gave a presentation entitled "Looks aren't Everything. Believe me, I'm a Model" at TEDx Mid-Atlantic, in which she described herself as having won "a genetic lottery," emphasized the selection and styling of models on the basis of a bias on looks and skin colour, and added: "it was difficult to unpack a legacy of gender and racial oppression when I am one of the greatest beneficiaries".[11] The presentation was covered by The Huffington Post, which described the TED video as "refreshingly frank,"[12] and CNN, which invited Russell to a roundtable discussion.[13]
